Specialised Breeders Australia has introduced the first system in Australia for hatcheries to identify female chickens before hatching. The system, developed in Germany is known as Cheggy and it detects differences between brown female and yellow-white male chicks non-invasively through the eggshell with high accuracy on day 13 of incubation. The development allows hatcheries to screen out male embryos and eliminates the need for culling day old chicks.
